GREEN: FALL
Please go over the music booklet once per day. I have made a video to help with the homework for each lesson in the SPA. This is something extra if you need help. To join the Rainbow Hummingbird Magical Musical Spa costs $7.77 per month.
For the FALL term the goal is to build a repertoire of songs and positive musical experiences.

JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH
We will now start to listen to the music of JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH. I would like the children to recognize the famous ‘MINUET IN G’. Please play music by BACH as the children colour their weekly handout.
For the FALL TERM we will be learning about the instruments of the KEYBOARD and STRING FAMILIES.
PETER ILLYCH TCHAIKOVSKY
Through November and December we will be listening to the music of Peter Tchaikovsky. Please access a copy of the NUTCRACKER SUITE and get to know the music. We will be playing Tchaikovsky in the classroom!
THEORY: In the Green class the students will now learn to read and write music upon the staff in F major pentatonic. They will also start to learn to play the recorder. If you don’t have a Workbook and are using duo tangs, it may be best to keep the recorder songs in a separate duo tang.
RECORDER: With the recorder songs we will add the pitch names in capital letters under the notes.
OR: If you have the Green Music Workbook, all theory and recorder books are there for you.
SOLFEGE: The Musical Rainbow Program gets the children writing music as well. When writing music we start with using solfege names : do, re, mi, fa sol, la ti, doh’. The solfege indicates the function of the note within the scale. We write these in lower case letters on top of the notes on the staff.
We will learn two names for a note. Above the music staff we will write the solfege names (s = sol, m = mi, etc) in lower case letters. Then on the Green recorder papers we will write the pitch names in upper case letters under the notes (F G A C D)

Rule of Stems: If note is above middle line the stem goes down on the left,
if note is below middle line the stem goes up on the right of the dot.
If note is on middle line the stem can go either way.
