Christmas Recital Lyrics

MUSICAL RAINBOW- PLACE DES ARTS
CHRISTMAS RECITAL 2019: at Centennial High School Theatre
(570 Porier Street, Coquitlam)
Sunday, Dec. 15th at 3pm
Doors will open at 2:30

(Recital will go for one hour) YES!

Musical Rainbow Recital FAQs are at the bottom of this page.

PLEASE NOTE: These recitals are for all students of the Musical Rainbow program. I take them to a smaller venue at Christmas so the children can be comfortable on a smaller stage.  At the end of the year we will have a recital at a larger theatre. Please note that normally we have two Christmas recitals on the same day to accommodate everyone, but it is not possible this year to have two recitals. So, please get your tickets early as they will sell out.

For the younger ones, they may not want to go on the stage. If they have trouble going on stage, please go with them andsit with them either until the recital begins, or even through the recital. If they make a fussand are still not comfortable please have them go back and sit to watch. The goal for amusician is to be comfortable on stage. This is why we do the recitals. Yet, some children
may not be ready to go on stage and should not be forced. Even just watching their classmates
up on the stage will be helpful and inspiring for the next time.

Tickets: We have to pay for the theatre so you will need to purchase a ticket for everyone who needs a seat. Babies or toddlers who can sit on someone’s lap do not need a ticket. Tickets are $10 and available from Mr I in the classroom, or at the door on the day of the recital if it does not sell out. They will NOT be available at the front desk of Place des Arts. Please note that the STUDENTS DO NOT need a ticket as they will be on stage through the entire recital.

OCEAN THEME –  Lyrics:
OCTOPUS’ GARDEN
(The Beatles)
I’d like to be, under the sea, in an Octopus’ Garden in the shade.
He’d let us in, knows where we’ve been. In his Octopus’ Garden in the shade.
I’d ask my friends to come and see, an Octopus’ Garden with me.
I’d like to be, under the sea, in an Octopus’ Garden WITH YOU ! (point at parents)
5 BIG OCEANS
(Mr I)
Tell me the names of the 5 big oceans, tell me the names if you can.
The PACIFIC, the ATLANTIC and the INDIAN OCEAN make three.
Tell me the names of the 5 big oceans, tell me the names if you can.
At the north pole is the ARCTIC OCEAN. At the south pole is the SOUTHERN OCEAN.
Tell me the names of the 5 big oceans, tell me the names if you can.
BABY BELUGA
(Raffi)
Baby Beluga in the deep blue sea.
Swim so wild and you swim so free.
Heaven above and the sea below.
And a little white whale on the go.
Chorus: Baby Beluga, Baby Beluga,
Is the water warm? Is your Mama home? With you so happy.
Way down yonder where the dolphins play.
Where you dive and splash all day.
Waves roll in and the waves roll out.
See the water squirting out of your spout.
Chorus: Baby Beluga, Baby Beluga,
Sing your little song. Sing for all your friends. We like to hear you.
When it’s dark, you’re home and fed. Curl up snug in your water bed.
The moon is shining and the stars are out. Good Night little whale, good night.
Chorus: Baby Beluga, Baby Beluga,
With tomorrow’s sun, another day’s begun. You’ll soon be waking.
Baby Beluga in the deep blue sea. Swim so wild and you swim so free.
Heaven above and the sea below, and a little white whale on the go.
You’re just a little white whale on the go.

RECITAL FAQs:
WHY HAVE A RECITAL? Part of being a musician is learning to be comfortable on stage. The recitals give an opportunity to stand on stage and gain confidence performing in front of an audience. At the Christmas recital we are at a small, more intimate theatre and then at the year-end we all meet on a larger stage.
HOW LONG IS THE RECITAL? The recital will last for one hour.
DO THE CHILDREN STAY ON STAGE DURING THE ENTIRE HOUR? Yes.
WHEN DO WE ARRIVE AT THE THEATRE? About 20 to 30 minutes before the starting time.
WHAT DO WE DO WHEN WE GET TO IN THE THEATRE? Please have the children stay with you until they are called on stage. Please make sure your child knows which colour level class they are in.
PROPS: When the children are called on stage please make sure the younger ones have all the props they need and have placed them in front of where they are sitting on the tape. I suggest finding a bag or basket that can hold all the props, basket is better.
WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE ALL THE NEEDED PROPS? I do have extra props if you are not able to bring everything.
WHAT IF MY CHILD IS TOO SCARED TO SIT ON THE STAGE? Some of the younger ones may feel uncomfortable up on stage at first. Please find a place on the tape at the edge of the group and sit with your child. Once the recital starts you can try to leave the stage and leave them alone. If they are with a classmate it often helps. Or, if they still make a fuss when you try to leave the stage you may just sit with them for the entire rectial. If they still make a fuss please just take them off stage to sit with you to watch the recital. Even just watching the other children is beneficial and will inspire them (theoretically – hee hee) to want to perform on stage next time.
MAY I TAKE VIDEO AND PHOTOS? Yes, but only at your seats or at the back of the theatre. Please do not stand in front and block the view for others.
DOES MY BABY OR YOUNG SIBLING NEED A TICKET? No, if they can sit on someone’s lap and do not need a seat of their own.
And please remember to turn off your cell phones before the recital starts. If you have any other questions please give me a call at 778-987-7706.
Thank you!
Mr. I
